We just returned from a Thanksgiving in Montana, this is the first Thanksgiving I spent away from Kathie and it was an emotional struggle to plan and complete such a trip. Madison, Hannah and I had a wonderful trip though and the Montana Jones' hosted a fantastic dinner and gathering. We enjoyed the travel, time with family and the scenery. Right before the Thanksgiving Blessing, each person shared one item they were thankful for, my brother Craig shared memories of hugging Kathie and sharing a cup of coffee with her in our kitchen. Looking outside myself, I sometimes forget how many people miss her and how my family misses her deeply. Our daughter Katie was cooking for her family and Andy was traveling but we made time to contact each other, wishing a Happy Thanksgiving. By Friday evening we were home and after dropping Hannah off at the Mall, I was able to hug Kathie, followed by giving her a bath and sitting at her bedside. Today is Kathie's Birthday, her life is celebrated and she is missed by many. Her room was decorated last night, Maddie chose Sweet Pea shower gel as a gift and I bathed her in preparation. This evening, I conveyed hugs and kisses, read birthday cards and emails to her telling her how much she is loved. I rubbed her neck and temples until she fell asleep, then I kissed her forehead goodnight. In a few weeks we have an appointment with a neurosurgeon who believes she is a candidate for a procedure to use electrical impulses that will relieve some muscle contractures. Last week she had Botox injections in her biceps, wrist and neck muscles in an attempt to increase her neck movements. My goal remains to keep her comfortable and look carefully at her care. For a third year, Kathie and I will be going Christmas shopping again.
