Last night I found myself carefully washing Kathie’s toes, I was surprised that after all the baths I’ve given her, I still pay attention to the smallest detail. By the grace of God, the task hasn’t diminished my love for her. On January 19 th , Kathie came home for a visit and haircut. I was battling to change Kathie into a gown and discovered the problems with dressing and undressing her. I am purchasing “adaptive” pants and looking at shoulder snaps for her shirts. The problem wasn’t just that I was exhausted by the struggle but I was concerned with the bending and twisting of Kathie’s arms. I realized that when two caregivers change her shirt it is much easier that one frustrated husband (reaching for the scissors to cut the shirt off), fortunately, the hairdresser arrived and we completed that task. The reward for caring for Kath comes in the form of listening to her. When I wash her hair, massaging her scalp, she hums, communicating the pleasure. When we’ve complet...
