“Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you . . . .” Rise to the occasion—do what the trial demands of you. It does not matter how much it hurts as long as it gives God the opportunity to manifest the life of Jesus in your body. -May 15, My Utmost for His Highest, Oswald Chambers.

The days leading up to Mother’s Day are difficult for our Children, they see the advertisements and know about the plans their friends are making but they also know that they are not alone. A friend of mine, a mom who has seen tragedy, shared with me that, “there are probably more moms and children who struggle with this day than fit into the greeting card model.” I asked our children to think of a good memory of their Mom and enjoy that memory rather than struggle with the pain. We visited Kathie, one girl lying on the bed with her, both giving her kisses. I came back in the evening and read my card to her.

Hannah is participating in an 8-day East Coast Trip with her 8th Grade Class. We have spent this school year preparing her for being away from home and she was very excited to begin the tour. Madison is continuing to prepare for SFSU as her college choice as she finishes her Senior Year of High School.

Yesterday, Saturday, I brought Kathie home for a visit. This process takes some planning and I began the process last Tuesday. I also needed to prepare Madison for the visit; I usually ask sort-of permission, then a reminder, then a text schedule reminder. The visit went well, as I greeted her at the transport van I said, “hey Kath,” she seemed to look at me and smile, nice start. I had a variety of chores and repairs around the house so Kathie and I went from room to room , I talked to her touching her each time I passed by her chair. Madison woke up and came downstairs and kissed her Mom good morning. We also sat outside in the backyard, at one point I took a picture of her dog Wiki laying next to her chair. When the transport van returned, I was able to kiss her good-bye very pleased that we had a great visit and I look forward to our next visit.

You can see we've had Jim home recently as well. The look of contentment on his face says it all!

Your family is in our prayers as we all continue in this journey of caregiving.

    God Bless, Laura + family

p.s. I'm writing from my "new" blog with video clips of Jim... to show how "in there" he is, to give hope to others, God willing!
