Now may the God of hope fill you
with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power
of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13. My Mom shared this verse with me.
August was a busy month as we moved
Madison into a rented house for her school year. Two trips to San Francisco,
furniture shopping and planning kept us busy. Hannah began her sophomore year in
high school on the Varsity Cheer Squad and was busy practicing all summer. I
began coaching soccer with freshmen and sophomore girls rec soccer. Seems like
a long time ago I started coaching 3rd graders.
August was also a hot month so I didn’t
bring Kathie home any of the Saturdays, we sat in the AC of her room while I trimmed
and filed her nails. A dental implant had come loose last year and finally came
out so I will be scheduling a dental visit this Fall. Her doctor and I planned
the next round of Botox injections with disappointing results, we continue to
look at ways to add to Kathie’s comfort.
August 5, My Utmost for His Highest,
Oswald Chambers.
“Watch with Me.” Jesus was saying,
in effect, “Watch with no private point of view at all, but watch solely and
entirely with Me.” In the early stages of our Christian life, we do not watch
with Jesus, we watch for Him. We do not watch with Him through the revealed
truth of the Bible even in the circumstances of our own lives. Our Lord is
trying to introduce us to identification with Himself through a particular
“Gethsemane” experience of our own. But we refuse to go, saying, “No, Lord, I
can’t see the meaning of this, and besides, it’s very painful.” And how can we
possibly watch with Someone who is so incomprehensible? How are we going to
understand Jesus sufficiently to watch with Him in His Gethsemane, when we
don’t even know why He is suffering? We don’t know how to watch with Him— we
are only used to the idea of Jesus watching with us…
… Our Lord had said, “You shall
receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you . . .” (Acts 1:8). This
meant that they learned to watch with Him the rest of their lives.”
Plenty of nights I have watched Kathie sleep and listened to her breathing, no answers, just looking at her and I kiss her forehead and pray, "where are your Lord?"
Thank you for standing with us in
prayer for seven years, we continue learning to "watch with Him",
Dave, Kathie, Madison, Hannah, Andy
Just wanted you to know that I think of your family often and I'm always inspired and awed by your ongoing love and care for Kathie. I wish there was more I could do, but I wanted you to know you're cared for even by those who only know you through your blog...
