No matter
what your circumstances may be, you can find Joy in My Presence. On some days
Joy is generously strewn along your life-path, glistening in the sunlight. On
days like that being content is as simple as breathing the next breath or
taking the next step. Other days are overcast and gloomy; you feel the strain
of the journey, which seems endless. Dull gray rocks greet your gaze and cause
your feet to ache. Yet Joy is still attainable. Search for it as for hidden
treasure (Proverbs 2:4)…” From Jesus Calling, October 22.
Saturday, Kathie
was home for a visit. I scheduled a haircut and color at our home using the
ceiling lift installed last Spring and the process went well. I lift Kathie up
in a sling that attaches to the lift, her hairdresser cuts and colors Kathie’s
hair as she is suspended, then the motorized lift travels down a track and I
lower Kathie into a whirlpool tub to wash her hair. This is the second time we
have used this process and I am getting much better at each step.
October 14,
Kathie and I visited a shopping mall and she was very alert as I wheeled her
through the different floors of shop. I negotiated the Bath and Bodyworks
displays and refilled Kathie lotions and soaps, and then stopped by the candy
store (for me). I’m aware of the people who look at us but sometimes, like that
day, a person touches me on the shoulder and quietly said, “God bless you.” It
is the still, small voice that
reminds me of God’s presence and blessing on our day trip.
I am coordinating
a dental visit for Kathie on November 5 that requires anesthesia, recovery and
travel. This is our third time doing this process and I’m pleased that Kathie’s
teeth are taken care of. In the coming months, a simple day surgery will be
scheduled to change an internal medical device (pump) that circulates a muscle
relaxant throughout her body.
I celebrated
my Birthday last week recognizing the blessing to kiss her goodnight as I left
her bedside.
