What began as a small change to Kathie’s clothes has become a revamp of her wardrobe and now all her shirts and pant have been altered to allow easier dressing and undressing as all “snaps” have been installed and completed.

Wednesday, March 18th Kathie and I attended an outing to the Mall and enjoyed our trip. We can navigate the mall with relative ease, tight clothing racks, small elevators (Nordstrom, JCP, Target are the best) and generally avoiding children who dart in front of our wheelchair as all obstacles that I have learned to handle. While I was sitting next to her at lunch, Kathie sneezed so loudly I jumped up, her face was full of surprise and it took both of us a moment to recover.

The end of March, Hannah and I participated in another Amor Mission Trip. We spent 3 days in Tijuana, Mexico building 2 homes along with 32 students and adults. This marks 16 years I have participated with this ministry. I was first asked to go on an Amor Trip when Andy when he was 15 and this year Hannah is a high school senior, this might be her last trip. I have been blessed to have worked with many people over the years, this is a great ministry.

Kathie continues to be comfortable and had no problems while I was out of the country on the Amor Trip. At Kathie’s bath night, I decided to just spend some extra time washing her hair and speaking in a quiet tone to her after a while, I discovered that she was so relaxed that she fell asleep (not sure if it was the hair washing or my talking to her). There is definitely a special peace that comes when I am able to give Kathie a measurable comfort and she is so relaxed.

When people ask me how I am doing, I sometimes answer, “I’m still standing.” Two bible verses I thought of recently are:

  • Habakkuk 2:1 (NIV) I will stand at my watch and station myself on the ramparts; I will look to see what he will say to me...
  • Ephesians 6:13 (NIV) Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.

By God’s Grace, I continue to stand,
Dave
