“Faith is not some weak and pitiful emotion, but is strong and vigorous confidence built on the fact that God is holy love. And even though you cannot see Him right now and cannot understand what He is doing, you know Him. Disaster occurs in your life when you lack the mental composure that comes from establishing yourself on the eternal truth that God is holy love. Faith is the supreme effort of your life— throwing yourself with abandon and total confidence upon God.” My Utmost for His Highest, Oswald Chambers.

This week Hannah is working hard as a florist as Mother’s Day approaches. In a moment of grief she tearfully exclaimed, “I work so many hours this week and I don’t have a mother to celebrate with.” A very sad and painful statement of the way many people feel this weekend. I pray for my children as they struggle with their Mother’s Day pain, a difficult day.

In the middle of April, Hannah and I drove to Northern Arizona University and she made her decision to attend NAU this Fall to study elementary education specializing in special ed. I am preparing to watch our 4th child finish high school and move forward.

On April 26, Madison joined me as my support team; I ran and completed the San Luis Obispo Marathon. Last year, I was injured around Mile 20 but I completed the course this year and enjoyed a weekend with Madison. My faith and my running definitely intersect in the verse in Hebrews 12:1 "let us run with patience the race that is set before us."

Kathie and I were supposed to go to Sea World today but much-needed rain changed our plans and we will be at the mall shopping today instead. We will spend a few hours buying lotion, bath soap, gifts and window shopping. We have enjoyed an uneventful month and Kathie seems very relaxed and comfortable when I visit.

Faith is the supreme effort of your life,
Dave

  1. I'm glad you can take your trips together. You never know what Kathie is thinking in her head, even though she can't express it orally. I'm sure she knows who you are.

  2. Very nice!! God bless all of you! It's bittersweet that your daughter had those tears -- she needs to cry! But it's still true that her mom is not present as she once was. Prayers!
