Our dog, Kathie's pet Cockapoo, Wiki, had to be put to sleep last week, she succumbed to complications from skin cancer. This was especially difficult because of Kathie's closeness to Wiki and since we got her right before the Accident, she has been a constant friend throughout the years. For most of the last 13 years I have fed her and as our family has changed, moved and gone to school, Wik has been my companion, a part is missing from our household now.

In the midst of all that we have going on, I was able to take multiple trips, all involved skiing. A brief vacation; a father-daughter weekend with Hannah; and a impromptu trip with my brother and sister-in-law. I haven't enjoyed so much travel and fun in quite a while. I am very pleased at the care that Kathie is receiving, which is a big reason I was able to take this break. I've recharged the batteries and back to the daily takes and care giving.

Unfortunately today, Kathie has a cold. This becomes the "scary" time of year as it is difficult for Kathie to cough. I spend more time at her bedside and I encourage her as she moans because of her cough. Much like a sick child, she needs consoling as I massage her neck and arm. The fever broke a few days ago so now we just have the cough to deal with. When I have a cough, I always imagine Kathie laying in bed unable to sit up. Her hospital be is head-up and she is sleeping comfortably now.

We are looking forward to Hannah's Spring Break soon.

Blessings,
Dave & Kathie

  1. I'm so sorry about the death of your pet. They are very much a part of our families. I hope Kathy's cold and cough are gone soon. It's hard to watch a loved one try to cough and not be able to.
