Kathie is home today.

She arrived wide eyed and we sat in the backyard until it started getting warm. Her eyes started getting heavy and I transferred her onto her bed, left the room for a moment and when I returned, she was fast asleep. I started working on my computer in the next room and heard a noise. Kathie was sleeping very hard and extremely relaxed. In a few minutes I will need to begin preparing her for the return to Care Meridian but for now she is home and relaxed. I enjoy her home visits.

Take care,
Dave

  2. Wonderful that you got to bring her home for a day!
You are an excellent caregiver, and I'm sure she can feel it.

  3. I knew your wife when I was a young teenager and she was so sweet to me. She knew I didn't have a great home life and she would give me rides, buy me food after school, I went to church with your family a few times and was always staying the night at your house. I cut myself once opening a can and my own mother wouldn't come home to help me but Kathie drove over and helped me fix my hand up. Sometimes I'd feel guilty when after school she would take us to a fast food restaurant and I didn't have any money and would only want to order something small but Kathie would always make me order a meal. When I wasn't friends with Kathie's daughter anymore I lost touch with her. The last time I saw her was years later when I was leaving a starbucks and she was walking in with Maddie and her younger daughter. I didn't say anything because she didn't see me but I went to my car and watched her. I saw how darn happy she was and how much she loved those girls and how happy she was to be a mom and it made me smile. If I would have known that was the last time I'd see her that way I would have thanked her for caring for me and being so loving to a girl who needed it, i would have hugged her tightly. I moved away but I still think about her and am thankful that I had time with her and that she had the heart enough to care, she is a special, special lady and you are an example of what a husband should be. You're in my prayers, may God bless you and Kathie and your entire family. I've wanted to type this for awhile and send her a beautiful bouquet of roses but I never knew where she was to send them. Have a blessed Sunday and may the Lord watch over you all of your days.

  5. Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful experience with Kathie, Erica. All of us remember her as such a loving and generous woman, but you painted a vivid picture of the way she paid attention to others, and filled so many needs in the lives of those around her, without being asked. May your day be blessed by God, and may your words serve as a reminder to watch for ways that we can make others’ lives better by reaching out in love, as Kathie did. No opportunity to serve slipped by her unnoticed. What a beautiful example you have given us of her genuine concern,,,and then RESPONSE...to those in need around her.
