January 30, Oswald Chambers, My Utmost for His Highest: “Without the sovereign hand of God Himself, nothing touches our lives. Do we discern His hand at work, or do we see things as mere occurrences? Get into the habit of saying, “Speak, Lord,” and life will become a romance (1 Samuel 3:9). Every time circumstances press in on you, say, “Speak, Lord,” and make time to listen.”

Last Tuesday Kathie and I participated in a day-trip to the Burch Aquarium. Many places we go to have memories and the courtyard overlooking Scripps Pier was the site of a wedding we attended in June before our accident. These trips are always so interesting, I find myself emotionally tired yet wishing I could spend more time with Kath. This day though she kept dozing off as the weather was beautiful and the setting was warm.

In the evening, I had time to bathe her and sit by her bedside. She was wide awake watching me move around the tub and she seems to let me know when I move her too much. She tightens her jaw and breathes forcefully as if to say, “enough.”

Yesterday afternoon my Grandfather passed away at 96 years of age. He was an amazing man of faith, strength and an example of someone to aspire to be like. Weekly he would ask me about Kathie, they had a special bond and he missed the loss of their relationship. We have heavy hearts today but as my Hannah said, “after a long time, He will be celebrating Valentine’s Day with Grandma.”

Speak Lord,

Dave

  1. I'm sorry to hear about the death of Grandpa Jones. I know Holly loved him very much. I enjoy reading your blog about your activities with Kathie. Carol Lang
