Kathie’s bacterial infection is healing and under the careful eye of her nurses. Thank you for your prayers and encouragement.

Kathie is vocalizing! I don't know where the Lord is leading us but this is an extremely interesting time. About 8-10 times per 12 hour shift she coughs then takes a deep breath then pushes air through her vocal cords and makes a very loud sound, like an extremely loud yawn that is heard in other rooms. It has startled the staff and patients alike since it started last Saturday and they have been updating me, I called at 1:30 and 6 am today. I was able to witness this transition (a nurse's description) on Valentine's night as I sat with her for 4 hours, I don't know what to make of it. We have ruled out a sharp pain, she does have nasal drip and coughs then vocalizes an almost irritation like if you have a continuous cough. I wondered out loud if she was finally hearing herself and the nurse last night used the term "self-realizing” as in she is probably hearing herself.

If I had my way I be just sitting at her bedside but God doesn't move at my emotion, I should be able to see her tonight.

  1. Wow, Dave! That is great about Kathie vocalizing! Just yesterday, while my mom was with my brother Jim, she held her cell phone up to his ear so I could talk to him, and I asked him how it felt to have just had his teeth cleaned - b/c he'd had a dentist appointment - and he also "vocalized!" He clearly responded to my questions with a gentle "moan" - not in pain, but a clear "mmmmmmmmm" which I've seen and heard him do before!
Then I told him that an old friend of his had contacted us thru facebook to express gladness that Jim was doing well -- and he lifted his finger in recognition of that person's name!
And continued to gently moan in affirmation!

    Let us pray!

God Bless your journey and please tell Kathie that she is not alone in her efforts to push "out" of herself...!

Can you show her my blog about Jim and let her see him?

The other day, Dave, I coined this phrase about my mom's efforts as Jim's guardian:
"My mom is getting a PhD in protecting Jim..."
and I feel that you as well, Dave, are earning your doctorate in "care of Kathie" and soon you will have a summa cum laude!

    God Bless you,
    Laura
